Gratitude for Nevada

Grateful for Nevada.
Its natural beauty, and its freedom-loving people.

Whether you were born here or moved here, by staying here, you choose to be a Nevadan.

Where we choose to build a life is one of the most important decisions we can make. None of us have a choice where we’re born or where we’re raised. Because I got out of the military a year before Amy, I began my professional career in Texas and subsequently decided to get my MBA.

When I graduated, Amy and I had complete control of where we lived for the first time in our adult lives. We wanted to find the best place to raise our kids. We had visited Reno early in our marriage and fell in love with the area. It was a place where we knew people valued the outdoors, hard work, and interpersonal relationships. So, we decided to move to Nevada.

I took a job with an Amazon fulfillment center and led a team that did the packing and loading on the shipping dock to the trailers. It was there that I came to appreciate and understand the hard-working people of Reno and what it meant to have a steady job and put in a good shift. After living in so many places while serving our country, Nevada was the first place that felt like home.

Whether you were born here or moved here, by staying here, you choose to be a Nevadan. The people here are hardworking and determined. There’s a culture of hard work in hospitality, logistics, manufacturing, farms, and ranches. Nevada is not a place for the lazy. No one comes here because it’s easy. There’s a rugged individualism that exists here that our federal government has forgotten.

Nevadans are indeed the salt of the earth. We value actual relationships with one another and the great outdoors. The pioneering spirit of our country can still be found in Nevada, where people believe in self-determination. One of the things I find most beautiful about Nevada is that the people strive to be self-reliant and to create opportunities for themselves and others instead of expecting the nanny state to intervene.

In that spirit, I started my own company here, and we serve veterans from coast to coast. Our company provides access to pharmacies outside the VA network in emergency situations to ensure veterans get the medications they need.

My wife and I chose Nevada for our children to have access to the outdoors and to be around like-minded people. This is our home. This is where we have planted our roots, and we couldn’t be prouder to be Nevadans.
